Madrona Chesapeake Bay Retrievers

About Us

Michelle Voss, the leader of the Chessie Pack here at Madrona Chesapeakes.   I have a B.S. in Zoology and an Associate degree in Veterinary Technology.  I have been working as a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 1997.  I have always been interested in dog training and reproduction.   I met my first Chesapeake Bay Retriever in 1998.  A client brought in her pack to the Veterinary Hospital I was working at and I fell in love with them.   I had never heard of this breed before so I did a lot of research and finally decided this was the breed for me.    It was quite some time before I was able to purchase my first Chesapeake.   Getting married and having 2 wonderful kids was my first priority.

Finally, in 2006 the time was right to start looking for my first Chesapeake.  I found a nice local breeding with pups due Feb. 2007.  From this litter I purchased my first Chesapeake, Mistee, Cle Elum Mist of Puget Sound.    I feel very lucky to have such a wonderful representation of the breed for my first Chessie.  She has a very high retrieving drive and is very bold and confident.  She is not shy or afraid of anything, any person and would never let any obstacle get in the way of her retrieve.  I started out just in Conformation and Obedience, but in 2009 I was bitten by the Hunt Training bug.  This is my new passion and I am learning more every day and just loving it.  I had help from a Professional Trainer, but I am training and handling my dogs on a daily basis.

Mistee is a great field dog and has passed this onto her offspring.  She has been a great foundation bitch to keep the Chesapeake as a duel breed that will excel in the Show Ring and as a tough Hunting Dog.    I added a male to the family in 2009, Max, Marjan's It's All In The Game.  He has exceptional conformation, a lot of personality and is very birdie.   I am sure there will be more Madrona Chesapeakes to come but this is the foundation of my Breeding Program.

The goals with my breeding program is to produce dogs that have a lot of retrieving drive and talent, but also have correct conformation  and exceptional temperaments.   I hope to have dogs that can go to Hunting homes and be exceptional Hunting Partners and also to Family homes and be great with kids and other animals.

I am a competitive person and love to compete with my dogs.  Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Hunt Tests and now  Dock Diving and Lure Coursing are all venues that a Chessie can excel in.

I look forward to the future with my Chesapeakes and building my own lines and making a positive mark in the breed.  Keeping the Chesapeake Bay Retriever a healthy and multi-purpose breed is a top priority.   I will breed occasionally and with careful consideration of improving the breed and producing very high quality dogs with extensive guarantees.
